Dear friends,

I'm delighted to share that we are launching a new advocacy video on the right to education in sign language for deaf children, in conjunction with a global conference on equality for deaf people, organized by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) in Sydney, Australia this week.

We hope the video will be useful in showing the challenges faced by deaf children and young people, and the opportunities sign language education offers them.

This video was spearheaded by Jenny Nilsson (President of the WFD Youth Section) - who is an intern with us in New York - in collaboration with the Kenya National Association of the Deaf.

We would appreciate your help in sharing the video link with your colleagues and networks, including by Twitter and Facebook, using the hashtags  #deaf #signlanguage #education

Key quotes:

"It is only by learning sign language that deaf children can fully communicate."

"Today, deaf children and young people worldwide are too often denied their right to education."

"It's possible for the deaf to learn anything, but what should happen is that they should have people who can communicate with them very well.  People who can use sign language.  People who understand the way they react."

"Our disability only affects our hearing, not our mind.  A deaf child's mind is as good as a hearing child's mind."

Thanks for your help in spreading the word!

Shantha
