Dubai opens swimming pool for people with disabilities

Middle East Jan 3, 2014

DUBAI: Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has opened the first swimming pool for people with disabilities at the Dubai Handicapped Club.

The pool was designed on international Paralympics specifications including the safety systems to host international swimming championships.

The state-of-the-art pool is equipped with the overflow system which ensures that the surface water runs off the entire length of the pool, taking any floating particles with it.

The 25×25 metre, automatically operated pool is fully covered to protect swimmers from harmful, direct sun light and has the capacity of 100 trainees.

Dr. Ahmed Al Shariff, Secretary General of DSC, said the pool was built in line with instructions of the UAE wise leadership to provide comprehensive care to people with disabilities and allow them practice all games they like and fit their physical abilities.
