About JASMAR

JASMAR is a human security organization. JASMAR establishment in 2001 was a response to the Explosive Remnant of War (ERW) threats on one hand and encouraged by the global campaign against landmines on the other hand. While JASMAR is currently engaged in Humanitarian Mine Action, its domain of activities goes beyond to include combating ERW,

controlling HIV/AIDS and advocating for the rights of the people with disabilities (PWDs), reintegrating ex-combatants as well as addressing sustainable livelihoods.

JASMAR participation in Mine Action international day, 4th Apr. 2011.

On the 4th April 2011 Sudan has celebrated the International Mine Action Day. The day has been celebrated at Arkawiet youth football stadium in Khartoum. The day witnessed many activities as parade by UN, NGOs and INGOs working in the field of MA.

Many speeches have been delivered by NMAC, UNMAO, Sudan CBL and H.E. The state Minister of Humanitarian Affairs. Moreover, many activities accompanied the day such as sport players within participation of mine survivors. The mine survivors have also enhanced the celebration by their artistic songs which was witnessed an interaction by the public.

Mine Action partnerships with MAG in Kassala, Blue Nile and White Nile states and with DCA in South Kordofan state

Through fund from DCA, JASMAR Multi Tasks Team MTT (in Nuba Mountains) continued with the de-mining operations, 3 landmines have been found and destroyed by the team. In addition to that 2 day training has been conducted by UNMAO and NMAC in

DCA office, 10th – 11th Apr. 2011. The training has covered data collection techniques, MA information management policy and introduction to GPS.

On the other hand, MAG/JASMAR partnership on Mine Action operations is continuing in Kassala and Blue Nile state through 5 MTTs and 4 Community Liaison CL teams (3 in Kassala and one team in Blue Nile). It is worth to mention that, JASMAR/MAG started MRE in White Nile state through one CL team.

JASMAR/MAG 3 CL teams working in Kassala state have managed to reach 2,482 beneficiaries while the CL team working in Blue Nile state has reached 398 beneficiaries. On the other hand, the new CL shifted to White Nile state has reached 1,141 beneficiaries. Moreover, the 5 CL teams have reported 25 Dangerous Areas, conducted 110 MRE Surveys and 26 Spot Task Surveys and carried out 110 MRE sessions.

Mine Risk Education/Risk Education MRE/RE partnerships with DCA, UNICEF and Ex-log:

During April 2011 JASMAR 2 MRE teams funded by UNICEF in Blue Nile state have managed to reach 4,261 beneficiaries. On the other hand, JASMAR 4 RE teams working in Darfur and funded by Ex-log have reached 6,132 beneficiaries.

RE 5 (working in South Darfur) has reported an accident where an 11 years old child has been injured by a UXO, sadly and as a result he has lost his leg.

In West Darfur QA assessment has been carried out by UNMAO for the RE team 6. The team has passed the QA assessment with a high degree.

In South Kordofan and through support from DCA, JASMAR MRE team has reached 1,429 beneficiaries through MRE messages. Moreover, 3 Dangerous Areas have been reported by the team.

Disability National Council

Sudan National Disability Council has been established to be as reference for the disabilities' issues in Sudan. The council membership is 50% for the disability representatives and 50% for the foundations working on the disability issues (JASMAR on of the members). The council is chaired by the Minister of the Ministry of welfare and social security.

JASMAR and its partners are advocating to insure the full consideration for rights of people with disability within the signed and ratified international Convention on the Rights of People with Disability CRPD.
