We, the members of the executive board of the DPI Arab Region, Ms. Sylvana El Lakkis (Lebanon)-Chairperson,Mr.Bashir El Faitouri (Libya) Vice-Chairperson1 ,Ms. Reham Al Masrey (Egypt) Vice-Chairperson2 , Mr. Ahmed Berkia (Morocco) General Secretary- Ms.Manal Ali Saleh Al Ashwal (Yemen) Treasurer constitutionally elected during the last general assembly meeting of the region held in Cairo, Egypt on April 2014, In the presence of the Global Chair of DPI Mr.Javed Abidi, and His Excellency the UN Special Rapportour Mr.Shuaib Chalklen as well as observers of distinguished International organization. This election has been held as a result of a series of comprehensive and intensive consultations with up to 13 Arab Countries represented by different national organizations and unions of persons with disabilities, which led to the creation and reformation of the DPI Arab region. We would like to draw the attention of the distinguished participants at the UN Seventh conference of States Parties to the convention of the Rights of persons with disabilities.
The statement that has been circulated this morning in the name of the DPI Arab region with an anonymous signature on behalf of the claimed chair Mr.Moaffaq ALkhafaghi is completely illegal and fraud due to the following facts:
1. There is nothing mentioned in the minutes of the DPI world council meeting in Durban of 2011to recognize the formation of an Arab region affiliated to the organization.
2. The claimed position of the Chairperson of the DPI Arab region by Mr.Alkhafaghi has no legal and constitutional basis due to the corrupt and misuse patronage by the International Disability Alliance and the Chairperson of DPI Europe.
3. More importantly, the members of the claimed DPI Arab Region Chaired by Mr.Alkhafaghi have failed over the decades to prove their compliance with the principles of human rights, inclusion, transparency, and accountability.
Thus, we should irritate the following facts about us as the only constitutionally and legally elected and representing entity for the DPI Arab region;
1. We have been elected according to a complete democratic and transparent mechanism that was based on the comprehensive consultation and engagement of active and authentic grassroots organizations of persons with disabilities in the Arab world.
2. We fulfill all required constitution standards of representation of all types of persons with disabilities including youth and women.
3. The assurance of the broad engagement as well as the representation of persons with disabilities men and women at all levels of decisions making on disability including the UN conference of state parties as well as the ongoing discussions on the post 2015 development agenda.
In this regard, it should be clear to everyone that those who are participating in the UN Seventh conference of States Parties including Ms.Sylvana Lakkis and Mr.Ahmed Berkia are the only representatives of the DPI Arab region and no body else.
