Durham University's School of Modern Languages & Cultures announces the Translation Studies BSL Glossary of Introductory Concepts.

The Glossary focuses on important introductory concepts for Translation Studies and refers to source texts that explicate the chosen concepts. The Glossary will be useful for fluent BSL users and second language advanced learners who are interested in Translation Studies.

The Glossary is also bilingual as the English source texts are also included within the site for reference. Source texts were chosen in collaboration with Translation Theory colleagues in the School of Modern Languages & Cultures, Durham University.

Durham University has a history of research and study of BSL. The BSL/English Dictionary was published jointly with the BDA in 1992. Undergraduates have been choosing academic BSL modules over the last 18 years. Since 2000 undergraduates are able to study BSL up to 3rd year advanced level. The MA/Diploma Sign Language Studies ran 1991 – 2000; the Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate Interpreting with the Deaf Community, 2004 -2009. In 2010 the School of Modern Languages & Cultures established the BSL Strand of the MA Translation Studies.

Durham University is named in the Top 3 of UK universities in the prestigious Sunday Times University Guide 2012.
