Call for Papers: First International Conference on Heritage/Community Languages February 19-21, 2010 UCLA Symposium: "Sign Languages as Heritage Languages" This Symposium is intended to open connections between the study of sign languages and heritage languages.. The main themes for the conference are: Research pertaining to demographics, sociology, linguistics, psychology, education Policy Aboriginal languages Teacher education Development of instructional resources and materials Other Proposed papers for the Symposium on "Sign Languages as Heritage Languages" may deal with topics in the following areas. Bilingual education, sign language preservation, corpus planning, language planning, linguistic research, language shift, educational policies, history and current campaigns against sign languages, neurolinguistics, multiple sign languages in one country, sign language and writing, media, culture and language, ideology, academic sign language, and linguistic human rights. These are only suggested topics; others are welcome.
