The Fulbright-Libya Program

The Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship for study in the USA covers full tuition at a U.S. university, a living and book/supply stipend, round-trip international airfare to the U.S. and back, and health insurance for the duration of the study program. Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship recipients study at a university in the United States for up to two years. The Fulbright Program promotes the exchange of ideas, cultures, and the development of leaders who can contribute to building Libyan institutions and services. As such, students of a variety of fields in the humanities and social sciences may apply. Consideration will also be given to study of water management, solar energy, information technology, and agriculture.

The Fulbright-Libya Program does not support the study of medicine, but applications for the study of public health administration will be considered. Students who are Libyan citizens living in Libya who hold a minimum of a BA/BS degree, want to pursue graduate study at the master's degree level, and are fluent in English can apply. A score of 550 or higher on the TOEFL is required. Candidates will also have to take the GRE test. Prospective applicants for PhD programs must also provide 3 points of contact for U.S. professors who have expressed willingness to serve as the student's dissertation mentor; PhD applicants must also provide a one-page dissertation proposal for their prospective program. Individuals with U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residence status are NOT eligible for the Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship.

The scholarship is for the recipient only; dependents may accompany the recipient but cannot be financially supported by the Fulbright Program.
