The meeting will take place from November 5 to 12 with the theme "Implementation of International and Regional Human Rights Decisions and Recommendations"
07/01/2011
The XI Colloquium, organized by Conectas Human Rights, will take place in São Paulo (Brazil), from November 5 to 12, 2011. The deadline for applications is July 31. (Click here for more information on how to apply). The International Human Rights Colloquium is an annual forum, organized since 2001, that brings together human rights activists and scholars from Latin America, Africa, and Asia for one week. The objective of the Colloquium is to create a space for participants to exchange experiences and knowledge, access innovative perspectives regarding different human rights issues and create new partnerships.
The theme of the XI Colloquium is "Implementation of International and Regional Human Rights Decisions and Recommendations".
Since its creation, the United Nations (UN) and regional human rights systems have been fundamental in the protection of rights, and they have contributed substantially to the improvement of the Rule of Law in various different regions. These mechanisms have, in many cases, been the final remedy available to victims when local institutions fail to protect basic rights. However, despite its importance, many are challenges for the implementation at the national level of international and regional human rights decisions and recommendations.
Who can apply?
Given the central theme of the XI Colloquium, we encourage the application of human rights activists who have experience in working to implement international and regional recommendations at the national level, or are interested in expanding their work in these fields. Human rights activists from the Global South with at least two years of work experience in the field will be selected.
A limited number of scholarships (full and partial) will be granted to applicants who cannot cover the expenses of participation.
The XI Colloquium is sponsored by the Open Society Foundations, Fundação Ford e da John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Sigrid Rausing Trust, Embassy of Ireland in Brazil and The Channel Foundation.
مع تمنياتي للجميع بالتوفيق
