| About JASMAR JASMAR is a human security organization. JASMAR establishment in 2001 was a response to the Explosive Remnant of War (ERW) threats on one hand and encouraged by the global campaign against landmines on the other hand. While JASMAR is currently engaged in Humanitarian Mine Action, its domain of activities goes beyond to include combating ERW, | controlling HIV/AIDS and advocating for the rights of the people with disabilities (PWDs), reintegrating ex-combatants as well as addressing sustainable livelihoods. click here to visit JASMAR website | | Opening of the Social Rehabilitation Centre for the People With Disability in Blue Nile As part of DDR program JASMAR has completed reintegration process for 645 Ex-combatants XCs (71 XCs were XCs with disabilities). After the accomplishment of this project and on 29th Mar. 2010 JASMAR had handed over the new established rehabilitation center for PWDs. | The establishment centre funded by UNDP under supervision of JDDRC. The centre included furnished watching club, tennis playing table and computer unit for future computer training. The centre aims to re-integrate the ex-combatants with disabilities. The opening ceremony has been attended by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, ministry of social welfare representative, XCs, PWDs union, UNDP/DDR representative, JDDRC/PWDs focal points and NNGOs. click here for more details about DDR projects | JASMAR/TDI MRE project in Blue Nile state is now over A three month project (Jan. – Mar. 2011) funded by The Development Initiative (TDI) is now over. The project aimed to support the personal security through delivering MRE messages to the war affected communities. In this project JASMAR MRE Team 7 in Blue Nile managed to reach 2,600 beneficiaries in Blue Nile state. | Experience exchanging visit to Turkey on disability issues: A Sudanese delegation from ministry of welfare and social insurance, NSDDRC, NGOs (JASMAR was among them), disability unions – jointly - has paid this visit during the period 2nd – 12th Mar. 2011. The visit aimed to get benefit from Turkey experience in the field of disability issues and its interventions. | The delegation was also participated in the conference of establishing the international union for disability, 4th – 6th Mar. 2011. During this visit the delegation met with many government officials. Moreover, disability Focal Point in Istanbul held a meeting with the delegation and accompanied the delegation in a visit to intellectual disability rehabilitation centre. In addition to that series of meetings have been held with the related Turkish authorities (Turkish disability chairperson at the presidential of ministries council, social services and child protection department etc.) and NGOs (IHHA and TIKA and Turkish White Crescent) in Ankara. As an outcome of this visit a cooperation protocol between Turkey and Sudan has been drafted. | |
| Mine Risk Education/Risk Education MRE/RE partnerships with DCA, UNICEF, Exlog and TDI: During March 2011 JASMAR 2 MRE teams funded by UNICEF in Blue Nile state have managed to reach 3,764 beneficiaries. On the other hand, JASMAR 4 RE teams working in Darfur and funded by Ex-log have reached 9,240 beneficiaries while 2 dangerous areas have been reported in South Darfur (Sania Afando). | A refresher training has been conducted by UNMAO for 2 MRE teams in South Darfur, 24th – 26th Mar. 2011. JASMAR 3 MRE teams in Blue Nile (2 teams funded by UNICEF and the other funded by TDI) have participated in report writing training organized by UNMAO, 27th – 29th Mar. 2011 at UNMIS. JASMAR MRE Team 7 funded by TDI in Blue Nile state has reached 830 beneficiaries. In South Kordofan and through support from DCA, JASMAR MRE team has reached 377 beneficiaries through MRE messages. Moreover, 3 Dangerous Areas have been reported by the team in Umdorain locality. click here for more details about MRE projects | |
| Mine Action partnerships with Danish Church Aid DCA and Mine Advisory Group MAG: Through fund from DCA, JASMAR Multi Tasks Team MTT (in Nuba Mountains) managed to clear 4,500 m2 in Kauda area, 2 UXOs found and destroyed. The team has shifted from Kauda to Alginai area in Hieban. | On the other hand, MAG/JASMAR partnership on Mine Action operations is continuing in Kassala and Blue Nile states through 5 MTTs and 5 Community Liaison CL teams (3 in Kassala and 2 in Blue Nile state). During 27th - 29th March, CL11 and CL14 attended three days refresher training by UNMAO. The 3 CL teams are working in Kassala state have managed to reach 2,238 beneficiaries. Moreover, the 3 teams have reported 31 Dangerous Areas, conducted 60 MRE Surveys and 31 Spot Task Surveys. click here for more details on demining operations projects | Obituary and JASMAR family news: This month has witnessed some sad events as the father of our colleague Altoma Ahmed (Blue Nile MRE) has passed away and the mother of our colleague Amir Alsir (Blue Nile MRE 7 TL). Mr. Desmond Smal - Ex-log Support Manager in Khartoum - also passed away this month. JASMAR extends its condolences to our colleagues in JASMAR and Ex-log. Our colleague Nada Bushra – JASMAR Project Officer – has left JASMAR for good as she will be based outside the country. Despite Nada's short period as JASMAR staff member she was contributed positively to JASMAR humanitarian mission. Thanks Nada and good wishes for your future endeavors.
