Betreff: Zero Project 2014: Accessibility - Call for Nominations of Innovative Practices and Innovative Policies
Dear Ms Heil,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Zero Project team.
The Zero Project´s mission is to support the rights of persons with disabilities, as stated in the UN Convention adopted on 13 December 2006. Its main activity is to research the most outstanding Innovative Practices and Innovative Policies worldwide by engaging leading experts in the nomination and evaluation process. The selected practices and policies will be presented in the Zero Project Report, on its website and at the Zero Project Conference. These "Innovative Practices and Innovative Policies of the Zero Project 2014" will get worldwide attention for their initiatives, and well be made know to leading decision makers and opinion leaders.
Following the great success of the second annual Zero Project Conference, entitled Employment Rights: Innovative Policies and Innovative Practices for Persons with Disabilities, held in Vienna at the end of February 2013 (presentations at which are available at www.zeroproject.org), the theme of next year's conference is going to be Accessibility as a human right: Innovative Policies and Innovative Practices.
As before, we are basing our research for the event (and, indeed, that section of the annual Zero Project Report) on nominations of both Innovative Practice and Innovative Policy that address the issue of accessibility and persons with disabilities. Our approach to accessibility will, in accordance with Article 9 of the UN Convention, not look only at the "built environment", but also at other areas including: access to information and communication, transport, products and services and several others. Special attention will be given to the accessibility of financial services.
We should be greatly honoured if you would participate in our research by providing us with your nomination(s) – which could, of course, be what you are actually doing yourself. The deadline to submit nominations is July 29, 2013.
Since we wish to ensure that we have the widest range of nominations, in terms of both subject matter and geography, we should very much like to encourage you to forward our request for nominations to any other persons, or organizations, you may consider appropriate.
When nominating, you will have to decide if the project/initiative in question is either an "Innovative Policy" (laws, regulations, standards etc. that have substantially and measurably improved accessibility) or an "Innovative Practice" (initiatives by, e.g., NGOs, social entrepreneurs or businesses that have clearly improved accessibility). You are of course invited to nominate more than one Innovative Practice and/or Innovative Policy.
You will find attached to this eMail both nomination forms for completion, including guidelines with all necessary details and further instructions. These documents will also be available in accessible Word format on our website, in seven languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian and Arabic ( http://www.zeroproject.org/about/nominations/). The procedure that follows receipt your nomination will be described on the website as well.
And please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
We look forward greatly to receiving your nominations, and to your involvement, thereby, in the work of the Zero Project this year.
